Commodity Markets Year-End Analysis: Record Positions in Soymeal & Feeders, Hogs Report Anticipation, 2025 Outlook

By Nate Harris, Ag Optimus. Akron Iowa Branch

Note record shorts in Soybean Meal (big short covering rally started last Wednesday), and record longs in feeder cattle (we believe some profit taking by funds seemed to take place Wednesday and Thursday). Do they continue to the door as we head to year end? Hard to do around the holidays with shortened sessions and thin trade.

Hog and Pig report this afternoon. Lots of bullish chatter in that market as inventory levels have tightened after several rounds of liquidation in the industry the past few years. The funds have bought into that hype, and hold 122k net longs as of last Tuesday.

We see lots of opportunities in our markets going into 2025. Money flow will always be king in our opinion. Tread lightly at year end, and prepare for a successful new year!

Merry Christmas!
